It's a blessing and a curse, it's squandered or capitalized upon, it comes in feast and famine. Opportunity has become prevalent to me in this search for balance between product and passion.

The difference for me lies in the creating forces of opportunity. Is it born out of necessity or does it arrive organically? Which should be found more honorable? Should it be more honorable to create content because I have bills to pay or is it far more noble to create at my own whimsy?

I'll be the first to admit that I've squandered opportunity, or at the very least done my best to avoid it. For no explainable reason other than shear procrastination and laziness, I've allowed others to advance past me while enjoying the comfort of my current surroundings. Maybe I did so out of some "noble" quest to have myself stumble upon the right opportunities at the right time, maybe I was simply more interested in something else at the time, but either way opportunities passed me by and I simply tipped my hat to them as they did so.

Time is short, my prime is fleeting, and I fear that at some point one becomes calloused to opportunity itself. That brings me to the following realization.

Whimsy is not exclusive of necessity, nor is it the other way around.

My search for nobility in opportunity has been moot. I've allowed myself to float instead of swim as a result.

Thomas Edison wrote, "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." Dead on, Tommy. If I could encourage you all to do one thing today, it would be to not get bogged down in where your opportunity comes from. If there's no opportunity knocking at your door, GO FIND IT! If you have opportunity just lying around, CAPITALIZE ON IT!

You can't afford not to. Life is short and prime is fleeting.

Til' next time.
